    Remodeling & Renovation Refresh Updates

Client Profile: Pleasant memories – this is what comes to mind for Susan as she reflected back on her remodeling experiences with The Cleary Company. Susan has known George Cleary for many years and reached out to him when she wanted to remodel and make several changes to her current home. Her goal? To be able to live in her house for the rest of her life.

The Cleary Company is honored to have worked with Susan on many home remodeling projects over the many years she’s lived in Upper Arlington, OH. Susan’s projects have utilized both our Design-Build and small projects remodeling Teams.

Since moving to her forever home in 2019, Susan has hired The Cleary Company for multiple remodeling projects.

    Q & A with Susan

    What spaces have you remodeled?

It all started with a 6’x18’ extension on the garage that the previous owner built and used as storage. Cleary’s Design-Build Team remodeled it by opening it directly into the house, building a bathroom, as well as a laundry/mudroom. There are plenty of cabinets to hold supplies, coats, dog paraphernalia, and my sweeper and floor polisher. The floor is heated for cold days too!

Rendering new laundry/mudroom & powder room.

Then my main bathroom was too small for my needs and it needed a remodel. An existing adjacent half bath was used to create a large en suite. The zero-entry shower with bench is wonderful and just what I wanted! I chose fun tile and the design looks great!

Additional Home Services remodel projects included: (View more photos on our Facebook profile)

    • In my kitchen, I upgraded to new Cambria countertops and a new tile backsplash.
    • After a leak was discovered in an upstairs bathroom the showerhead was replaced and new tile was added.
    • New stair railing and new front door.
    • Added shutters on exterior windows.
    • Replaced a door from the dining room to the patio. The old door swung in which didn’t function well, so it was replaced with a sliding door. In the process, we found there had been a water leak, so the whole support beam in the floor was rotten and had to be replaced as well.

Coming up next? Replacing an old bar in my family room. Another water leak has led to this project! A new counter, cabinets with glass fronts, improved lighting, and pull-out drawers will create a brand-new look for the bar.

What is your favorite part of your remodeled home?

I love it all! They have taken my home that was built in 1975 and made it so much more livable. The house has 4 bedrooms upstairs and the main bedroom on the first floor. I wanted all my living to be on the first floor, but still have a 5 bedroom house. It’s perfect for my grandchildren or out-of-town friends to visit since they can take over the upstairs bedrooms!

Why did you choose The Cleary Company to remodel your home?

I’ve known George and his wife, Cathy, since they were in college. Cathy’s parents were two of my best friends. I have always enjoyed George and was excited when he started his remodeling business. I knew his company would be successful. The Cleary Company excels in planning out each part of the project.

You talk with them, they listen and come back with a plan. They listen to changes you want to make and then create the project. I love that they don’t start the work until everything is ordered and in, so there are no gaps. Everything moves along fluidly, with no hiccups. In my opinion, the timing of a project will make it or break it, and their planning reflects this. They don’t start until everything for the job is ready and available.

What is your favorite part of working with The Cleary Company and why?

Everyone that I have met that is part of the company–the project manager, a tile contractor, heating and air conditioning people, carpenters, everyone is supreme. They all know what they’re doing and don’t make mistakes, which I find amazing. The other thing I loved was how they cleaned up after themselves while working. Even the cardboard laid on my wood floors was cleaned daily!

Mike Seyfang, Homes Services Project Manager, is a fabulous carpenter and an amazing person. Justin Juenger, my Design-Build Project Manager, is a great guy. I would give him 17 stars!

What advice would you offer to someone who is thinking of remodeling their home?

Don’t give it a second thought–work with The Cleary Company. You’ll know it’s going to be done right, be quality work and exceed your expectations! They made it possible for me to be happy here and be able to stay in my house.

If you were asked to explain in one word why you choose to do business with The Cleary Company, what would it be?

    That’s easy Integrity.

  • Modern Primary Bathroom Remodel

    Modern Primary Bathroom Remodel

An older home with a dated bathroom layout and tired fixtures combined with a very tall husband led Jenn to research a remodel. This young couple reached out to our Team for help remodeling their main bathroom. On their list of priorities for the main bath was raising the ceiling, create better flow, add function with more storage, and modernize fixtures and finishes.

This huge transformation will allow them to function better in their home. Thanks for putting your trust in us!

    Client Profile: Q & A with Jenn & Jeff

Why did you select The Cleary Company Remodel-Design-Build for your bathroom remodel?

We reached out to five different companies to get ideas and understand the landscape of bathroom remodeling. We are first-time homeowners and really don’t know much about remodeling. Coury Sicker, a Project Developer/Designer with the bathroom remodeling Team at The Cleary Company, got back to us quickly. He sounded so welcoming and flexible with design arrangements, planning, and the budget. We went right away and met with them at their bathroom design studio. Everything worked out from that first meeting. A mixture of the speed of their response to our inquiry, the flexibility, and the welcoming demeanor sold us on choosing them for our remodel.

What did you like best about the bathroom remodeling process?

The best thing was being able to go to the bathroom design studio to see what we could choose from. We aren’t people that can walk into a huge showroom and start picking items from so many options. It was nice to see just a few really great examples and build off of that to create what we wanted.

We liked having a dedicated project manager on site. Dan Irwin, our project manager, was frequently onsite checking on the progress and answering our questions. He is an amazing communicator and gave us a great feeling of confidence with the process.

What was your favorite part of working with your bathroom remodeling Team?

It was the people themselves. There are many companies that do different levels of design and build-out work. We liked the culture of the bathroom remodeling Team at The Cleary Company. Everyone was so welcoming and helpful. We even met Russell, their office dog! It was a welcoming process, not a daunting one. They really made the whole process fun for us.

Were there any unique features or changes you desired for your bath remodel?

My husband is 6’4 and hit his head in our old bathroom. He had to bend over just to take a shower. We were looking for a miracle–to raise the ceiling in not only the shower but also raise the ceiling in the whole bathroom. They were able to do that as well as work with an odd angled nook in the bathroom, creating cabinetry for it. We wanted nice cabinetry and they built us custom cabinetry. Additionally, we added a Broan-NuTone fan with an LED white light and antibacterial violet light to help prevent the growth of bacteria, mold, and fungi growth.

What advice would you offer to someone who is thinking of remodeling their bathroom?

Have an idea and the look and finish of what you want in mind. But don’t feel married to it–be open to new ideas. Having an open mind makes their bathroom remodeling Team the perfect match. They helped our vision become reality.

Describe your remodeling experience in just a few words?

Custom, Fun & Exciting, Excellent Quality of work

Would you recommend The Cleary Company to your friends and neighbors?

Absolutely! We have already recommended them. We never had to worry about anything. We have told everyone how great they are, how easy they are to work with, and what amazing, quality work they do!

  • Dublin Couple Finds Perfect Partner for Bathroom Remodel

Dublin Couple Finds Perfect Partner for Bathroom Remodel

After meeting with several companies at their home and not being satisfied with the information presented, a sighting of a sign in a neighbor’s yard changed the narrative for Mike and Paula of Dublin. They now love to show their remodeled main bathroom to anyone who wants to see it!

How do they feel about their remodeling journey, the quality of the work and the end result? We asked them to share their thoughts and experience so you can understand why they love their new bathroom!

Bathroom Remodeling with The Cleary Company

Why did you hire The Cleary Company for your bathroom remodel?

After meeting with a few companies and reviewing some estimates, we just weren’t pleased with what we’d heard and seen. Coincidentally, Aaron Enfinger, (Chief Operations Officer for The Cleary Company) is our neighbor. He had a sign in his yard and we talked with him about our needs.

We visited their bathroom design studio. The materials were the quality we were searching for, and we really liked the people. A key difference for us was being able to see and touch all of the materials we selected. The other companies we talked with had just come to the house with photos of the materials.

What did you like best about their remodeling process?

The quality of products our Designer proposed was exactly what we wanted for our bathroom. A no-pressure sales tactic was a welcome change and being able to easily select from the curated materials and design we wanted sealed the deal!

What was your favorite part of working with their bathroom remodeling Team?

We really appreciated their attention to detail. The team taped off the areas of our home that needed protection for the remodeling of our main bathroom that is off of our bedroom. They took care of everything!

As messy as a remodel can be, they kept everything neat and tidy. The managers came to check on the progress of the project. Everyone that worked in the house was very professional, polite, and even greeted our dog every day. From the first time visiting the showroom to sitting and talking with Thomas and the team, everything was handled professionally.

    The entire process was excellent!

Describe your bathroom remodeling experience in three words?

Oh My Gosh!! We’d do it again. That is more than three words, but it’s how we feel! Here are three more words we would use to describe our experience – Quality, Professionalism, Timeliness.

Would you recommend their bathroom remodeling Team to your friends and neighbors? Always. We have already recommended them to four or five neighbors. We also have three more bathrooms we might have complete.

We have no hesitation recommending or showing our bathroom to anyone who wants to see it. The attention to detail and the quality of work is impeccable. Every morning when we go in the bathroom, we are so happy! We love the bathroom!

What advice would you offer to someone considering a bathroom remodel?

We moved into our guest suite during the remodel. It’s great to have other usable spaces in your home separate from the remodel if you plan on staying in your home during the remodel. They blew our entire bathroom out and moved the drain for a tub.

    Successful Results

We are thankful for happy clients who love their new bathrooms and share their remodeling experience and The Cleary Company name with others. Providing an exceptional remodeling experience, high-quality products, and being able to personalize the bathroom for each and every client is not something we take lightly. We thank them for their trust in us!

  • Full Bathroom Remodel in Grandview, Ohio

Full Bathroom Remodel in Grandview, Ohio

Client Profile: As Sean’s kids get older, updating their shared bathroom took center stage. A bigger shower/tub combo, double sink vanity and better function were needed. Modernizing the bathroom with a hint of mid-century adds to the home’s overall look with the other updates he’s making. Some of the special details in the Grandview, OH bathroom were porcelain panels wrapping the entire shower area, exposed brick and a European shower screen for the shower glass.

Why did Sean choose the bathroom remodeling team at The Cleary Company in Columbus, Ohio and what was his experience like? As he says, it was like working with family–in the best way!

Q & A with Sean Grandview Heights, OH

Why did you select The Cleary Company for your bathroom remodel?

I had heard about The Cleary Company from my friend and neighbor. She had them complete a gorgeous kitchen remodel.

Being a busy working parent, I know how much work it would take to manage all of the parts of a project. I needed someone to be able to remodel the bathroom from beginning to end–from demolition to design, from the construction work to the finishing touches. I wanted the white glove treatment and to work with a partner who, because they handle every part of the remodel, could complete this in a quick timeframe. It bathroom my kids use so it needed to be a timely remodel. Their Team has a great reputation. I knew they could handle everything the way I wanted it to be completed.

What did you like best about the bathroom remodeling process?

Their Team made it seem easy. They came to my house, looked at the space and talked through my options. I went to the bathroom design studio to look, touch, and feel all of the components I might use in the bathroom. I was presented with drawings, 3D pictures, and everything I needed to be informed and be part of the process. They followed up with clear processes– timeline, costs, written documentation. I knew who the team members were and who would be in my house. They made it easy to make decisions and get on with the rest of my life.

What was your favorite part of working your bathroom remodeling Team.

They made it enjoyable! Coury, Pete and everyone are really nice people. They were pleasant to work with and made the remodel an easy process. It was a serious project but we had fun doing it. It felt like I was dealing with family, they just didn’t stay overnight, ha! They are such a good group of people with great attitudes and that makes all the difference. I was also very impressed with how clean they kept the working area every evening and the rest of the house wasn’t affected at all by the dust or demolition!

Were there any unique features or changes you desired for your bath remodel?

I can think of two stories to tell. The first one is that they knocked out a wall to get to a closet in my son’s room that wasn’t being used. But it was diagonally sloped. We made it into a unique bath/shower that works really well in the space.

Stealing floorspace from an adjacent bedroom closet created enough room to install a custom double sink vanity.

The second story involves the fact that this home is very old. When they were knocking out the low soffit over the existing shower ceiling, they found a 100+ year old water tank produced by the Flint & Walling Mfg Co. It was removed and the extra cost was exactly what was written after the verbal assessment. Since it is part of the history of the house, I’m saving it for use in my outdoor landscaping in some way.

What advice would you offer to someone who is thinking of remodeling their bathroom?

By choosing a team that could handle all phases of the project, we were able to share multiple viewpoints/skillsets from everyone involved and discuss design and functional elements that might have otherwise been overlooked. Is the towel rack in the right spot, what kind of waterproofing do we need, where do the light switches need to go, which way does the door need to swing so as not to bump someone standing at the sink? Coury and the design process prevented me from making little mistakes in my choices or requests. Everyone is so experienced and we could all communicate our thoughts and not make any missteps. We made little adjustments without compromising the overall timeline or cost.

Describe your experience in three words?

Professional (I can’t say it enough), Perfection, and Fun (family-oriented)

Would you recommend The Cleary Company to your friends and neighbors?

Yes! If someone wants to take on a project like this…managing it yourself, the contractors, etc., and save money, could you do it cheaper? Sure, but with risk, delays, and stress. But if you want a high-quality project and feel like you are being taken care of, things being done right the first time, I will absolutely recommend them. For me, I know I will use them again!

It was great to work with them. I had other little projects I was working on around the house and they were always willing to offer advice or answer questions that I had. They felt like family and went above and beyond while they were here. They clearly hire people who like what they do and are good at it. The other thing that plays into my recommendation was the timeline. It was a realistic timeframe for the bathroom remodel to be finished. They weren’t rushed, materials were on site when needed, and everyone was able to get their work done in a timely manner. That takes planning and experience to have every part of the project come together on time.

  • Why Should You Buy Fixtures from Your Contractor?

Why Should You Buy Fixtures from Your Contractor?

Have you ever wondered why prices for a plumbing fixture can vary so much? What may seem like a terrific opportunity to save money on your remodeling project is often not the case. Although there are some materials our clients can purchase and supply for their projects, plumbing is not one of them. Occasionally, we will get asked “Can I purchase my own plumbing fixtures? I found a great deal online!” Our answer is always, “Sorry, no you cannot.” Sound harsh or inflexible? Maybe, but consider these scenarios:

    • What if items arrive defective or damaged?
    • What if the specifications don’t work with the beautiful countertop and vanity you selected?
    • How will you deal with items which cannot be exchanged or returned?
    • How will this affect your project’s completion date?
    • What will happen if the product is discontinued before the warranty is up?

Our Team and the professional plumbing trade partners we work with are equipped to handle all of these scenarios and more. When we purchase and supply plumbing fixtures for our clients, we own all of the management of those materials. More importantly, our professional plumbing trades, nor The Cleary Company CANNOT warranty any installation of plumbing products or materials purchased from superstores, discount warehouses and/or online retailers.

Where You Purchase Plumbing for Your Remodel Matters!

So why are retail and sale prices at plumbing supply distributors higher than the superstores (Home Depot, Lowe’s etc.) and online retailers (Amazon, Wayfair, Overstock, etc.)? Read on to learn the top 3 reasons, provided as a courtesy, so that you can make the best decision for your home improvement project.

    1. Volume. Superstores and online retailers derive a portion of their profits from manufacturers’ rebates based on sales volume and can recover a portion of their discounted consumer prices. They however assume no liability and pass on the manufacturer’s warranty.  What this means to the homeowner is if you experience a problem with your purchase you will deal directly with the manufacturer via email or phone to resolve any issues.
    2. Customer service! Our relationships with local reps can get most issues resolved quickly and efficiently and in some cases, get product replaced at no additional cost to our clients. Note, when purchasing products on Amazon remember you’re not necessarily buying it FROM Amazon. Who do you contact for help then?
    3. Quality. There is a difference! Products and materials purchased from plumbing supply distributors are made with original ceramic disc valves, all brass construction, threaded connections, metal drain assemblies, etc. Those same fixtures at a big box retailer are going to be DIY friendly with quick connections, which could include plastic parts.

What Can You Purchase and Supply for Your Remodeling Project?

Good news, there may be some materials and products that you can purchase for your project. Some more common examples are ~

    • Lighting fixtures – pendants, chandeliers, etc.
    • Bathroom accessories – mirrors, towel bars and robe hooks
    • Kitchen appliances – ranges, cooktops, microwaves, etc.

But, before you run out to the store, make sure you have all the specifications and measurements in hand for your space. While that large chandelier may look beautiful in the store, it may not work in your home. Doors will still need to open and it will need to provide clearance for those walking underneath it. These are just a few of the many things you will need to consider when you are making your purchases and providing your own materials. When our experienced Design Team specifies and orders products for your home remodel, we can ensure all your selections meet the requirements for the entire project.

Our professional relationships with our suppliers and manufacturers’ representatives give our Team access to the most current information on trends, new or discontinued models, finishes, and more. Contact our Team to Get Started on your next home remodeling project!

  • Timeless Charm Meets Modern Living: Transforming a Bathroom in Dublin, OH

Timeless Charm Meets Modern Living: Transforming a Bathroom in Dublin, OH

Throughout Central Ohio, there are many beautiful neighborhoods with homes established prior to the turn of the century. In order to keep these homes functional and updated for years to come, more families are choosing remodeling to modernize high-traffic spaces, such as bathrooms. A local couple recently reached out to see how we could help them with their Dublin bathroom remodel.

Client Profile: Julie and Dan contacted The Cleary Company and their remodeling Team to renovate their family’s outdated bathroom. How did they feel about the remodeling journey, the work of our Lead Carpenters and Craftsmen, and the final result? We recently asked them to share their thoughts and experience working with our bathroom remodeling team in their home, especially during a pandemic.

How did you first hear about The Cleary Company?

We live in Dublin and receive Dublin Life magazine. The Cleary Company had an article in the magazine, so I went to their website and found their bathroom remodeling page. We liked what we saw on the website, so we called them. Now we have a new bathroom!

Why did you choose The Cleary Company to remodel your bathroom?

We liked their approach for remodeling a bathroom. I wanted something really nice but I didn’t have time or energy to look for everything – I don’t want to look at hundreds of types of hardware, faucets or paint colors. We were able to see the various collections, choose one, and then do some customizations to choose what worked for us. We weren’t doing anything extensive, like removing walls or moving plumbing, so this really worked for us.

If you could describe your remodeling experience in three words, what would you choose?

Communication, Detail, and Ease of Process

What surprised you during the remodeling process?

I was pleasantly surprised by the level of attention to detail, not only with the work itself, but during this time of the pandemic, they wiped down doorknobs and work surfaces, and wore masks when interacting with us. All of the workers were very conscientious.

We were impressed with their excellent communication. If they happened to be running late he would text to let me know. They even took the time to learn all four of our dog’s names and would greet them by name (correctly!) every day. Our interactions with everyone on the team were very positive.

Would you recommend The Cleary Company to your friends and neighbors? Why?

I definitely would. In fact, after the sign went up in our yard, several neighbors asked about our experience. All of our homes are about the same age and we aren’t the only ones ready to make some upgrades. We have let them know how impressed we were with The Cleary Company’s attention to detail, the quality of the work, their courteousness, the price, and our overall positive experience.

Grateful for clients like Julie & Dan

It’s humbling to hear from such satisfied clients as Julie and Dan. Our Team is grateful for each new opportunity to help homeowners personalize their homes. We pride ourselves on installing stylish bathroom designs with high-quality materials and detailed workmanship. It’s a great feeling when you know clients like Julie and Dan enjoyed the process and love the final result!

Our relationship with them enables us to provide our clients with innovative, well-designed and expertly crafted plumbing for your bathroom or kitchen. When you choose Kohler brand, you are selecting an industry leader in kitchen and bath design, world-class products capable of creating a complete design solution, all manufactured to meet a singular level of uncompromising quality.

Your bathroom, regardless of size, is your sanctuary. If you’re stuck with a small-sized bathroom, don’t despair, these tips can help you get the bathroom you deserve.

You can increase the physical space and the perception of space by:

    Keeping it cornered

Small bathrooms need to make use of all available space, so install shelving or build your storage units into the corner. Corners provide extra inches and allow you to create unique design solutions.

    Downsizing your toilet

Consider replacing your toilet with a compact elongated model. It’s the same size as a round-front toilet but provides the comfort of an elongated seat. Plus, newer toilets use less water, making them friendlier to the environment.
    Recommendation- San Souci® toilet

    Choose a smaller faucet

Change your sink faucet to a space-saving, single-hole model.

    Recommendation- Margaux® faucet

    Rethinking the vanity, increasing storage

Save real and perceived space by installing a smaller vanitya pedestal sink or a wall-mounted sink to remove bulky furniture. Pair with a medicine cabinet to increase convenient storage with no wasted space.
    Recommendation- Jute® wall-hung vanity & Maxstow® medicine cabinet

Taking the tub down a notch

Consider replacing your tub with a lower-walled model to help open sightlines and make the bathroom look more expansive. Try a five-foot tub with a flat bottom. It’s perfect for showering, but still deep enough for a pleasant bath.

    Recommendation- Underscore® Rectangle

    Matching accessories

From robe hooks to towel bars, maximize your storage and counter space by utilizing hanging space with matching accessories.
Recommendation- Margaux towel bar, Margaux toilet tissue holder, Margaux robe hook & Margaux towel ring

Going bold with a statement piece
