  • Dublin Couple Finds Perfect Partner for Bathroom Remodel

Dublin Couple Finds Perfect Partner for Bathroom Remodel

After meeting with several companies at their home and not being satisfied with the information presented, a sighting of a sign in a neighbor’s yard changed the narrative for Mike and Paula of Dublin. They now love to show their remodeled main bathroom to anyone who wants to see it!

How do they feel about their remodeling journey, the quality of the work and the end result? We asked them to share their thoughts and experience so you can understand why they love their new bathroom!

Bathroom Remodeling with The Cleary Company

Why did you hire The Cleary Company for your bathroom remodel?

After meeting with a few companies and reviewing some estimates, we just weren’t pleased with what we’d heard and seen. Coincidentally, Aaron Enfinger, (Chief Operations Officer for The Cleary Company) is our neighbor. He had a sign in his yard and we talked with him about our needs.

We visited their bathroom design studio. The materials were the quality we were searching for, and we really liked the people. A key difference for us was being able to see and touch all of the materials we selected. The other companies we talked with had just come to the house with photos of the materials.

What did you like best about their remodeling process?

The quality of products our Designer proposed was exactly what we wanted for our bathroom. A no-pressure sales tactic was a welcome change and being able to easily select from the curated materials and design we wanted sealed the deal!

What was your favorite part of working with their bathroom remodeling Team?

We really appreciated their attention to detail. The team taped off the areas of our home that needed protection for the remodeling of our main bathroom that is off of our bedroom. They took care of everything!

As messy as a remodel can be, they kept everything neat and tidy. The managers came to check on the progress of the project. Everyone that worked in the house was very professional, polite, and even greeted our dog every day. From the first time visiting the showroom to sitting and talking with Thomas and the team, everything was handled professionally.

    The entire process was excellent!

Describe your bathroom remodeling experience in three words?

Oh My Gosh!! We’d do it again. That is more than three words, but it’s how we feel! Here are three more words we would use to describe our experience – Quality, Professionalism, Timeliness.

Would you recommend their bathroom remodeling Team to your friends and neighbors? Always. We have already recommended them to four or five neighbors. We also have three more bathrooms we might have complete.

We have no hesitation recommending or showing our bathroom to anyone who wants to see it. The attention to detail and the quality of work is impeccable. Every morning when we go in the bathroom, we are so happy! We love the bathroom!

What advice would you offer to someone considering a bathroom remodel?

We moved into our guest suite during the remodel. It’s great to have other usable spaces in your home separate from the remodel if you plan on staying in your home during the remodel. They blew our entire bathroom out and moved the drain for a tub.

    Successful Results

We are thankful for happy clients who love their new bathrooms and share their remodeling experience and The Cleary Company name with others. Providing an exceptional remodeling experience, high-quality products, and being able to personalize the bathroom for each and every client is not something we take lightly. We thank them for their trust in us!

  • Full Bathroom Remodel in Grandview, Ohio

Full Bathroom Remodel in Grandview, Ohio

Client Profile: As Sean’s kids get older, updating their shared bathroom took center stage. A bigger shower/tub combo, double sink vanity and better function were needed. Modernizing the bathroom with a hint of mid-century adds to the home’s overall look with the other updates he’s making. Some of the special details in the Grandview, OH bathroom were porcelain panels wrapping the entire shower area, exposed brick and a European shower screen for the shower glass.

Why did Sean choose the bathroom remodeling team at The Cleary Company in Columbus, Ohio and what was his experience like? As he says, it was like working with family–in the best way!

Q & A with Sean Grandview Heights, OH

Why did you select The Cleary Company for your bathroom remodel?

I had heard about The Cleary Company from my friend and neighbor. She had them complete a gorgeous kitchen remodel.

Being a busy working parent, I know how much work it would take to manage all of the parts of a project. I needed someone to be able to remodel the bathroom from beginning to end–from demolition to design, from the construction work to the finishing touches. I wanted the white glove treatment and to work with a partner who, because they handle every part of the remodel, could complete this in a quick timeframe. It bathroom my kids use so it needed to be a timely remodel. Their Team has a great reputation. I knew they could handle everything the way I wanted it to be completed.

What did you like best about the bathroom remodeling process?

Their Team made it seem easy. They came to my house, looked at the space and talked through my options. I went to the bathroom design studio to look, touch, and feel all of the components I might use in the bathroom. I was presented with drawings, 3D pictures, and everything I needed to be informed and be part of the process. They followed up with clear processes– timeline, costs, written documentation. I knew who the team members were and who would be in my house. They made it easy to make decisions and get on with the rest of my life.

What was your favorite part of working your bathroom remodeling Team.

They made it enjoyable! Coury, Pete and everyone are really nice people. They were pleasant to work with and made the remodel an easy process. It was a serious project but we had fun doing it. It felt like I was dealing with family, they just didn’t stay overnight, ha! They are such a good group of people with great attitudes and that makes all the difference. I was also very impressed with how clean they kept the working area every evening and the rest of the house wasn’t affected at all by the dust or demolition!

Were there any unique features or changes you desired for your bath remodel?

I can think of two stories to tell. The first one is that they knocked out a wall to get to a closet in my son’s room that wasn’t being used. But it was diagonally sloped. We made it into a unique bath/shower that works really well in the space.

Stealing floorspace from an adjacent bedroom closet created enough room to install a custom double sink vanity.

The second story involves the fact that this home is very old. When they were knocking out the low soffit over the existing shower ceiling, they found a 100+ year old water tank produced by the Flint & Walling Mfg Co. It was removed and the extra cost was exactly what was written after the verbal assessment. Since it is part of the history of the house, I’m saving it for use in my outdoor landscaping in some way.

What advice would you offer to someone who is thinking of remodeling their bathroom?

By choosing a team that could handle all phases of the project, we were able to share multiple viewpoints/skillsets from everyone involved and discuss design and functional elements that might have otherwise been overlooked. Is the towel rack in the right spot, what kind of waterproofing do we need, where do the light switches need to go, which way does the door need to swing so as not to bump someone standing at the sink? Coury and the design process prevented me from making little mistakes in my choices or requests. Everyone is so experienced and we could all communicate our thoughts and not make any missteps. We made little adjustments without compromising the overall timeline or cost.

Describe your experience in three words?

Professional (I can’t say it enough), Perfection, and Fun (family-oriented)

Would you recommend The Cleary Company to your friends and neighbors?

Yes! If someone wants to take on a project like this…managing it yourself, the contractors, etc., and save money, could you do it cheaper? Sure, but with risk, delays, and stress. But if you want a high-quality project and feel like you are being taken care of, things being done right the first time, I will absolutely recommend them. For me, I know I will use them again!

It was great to work with them. I had other little projects I was working on around the house and they were always willing to offer advice or answer questions that I had. They felt like family and went above and beyond while they were here. They clearly hire people who like what they do and are good at it. The other thing that plays into my recommendation was the timeline. It was a realistic timeframe for the bathroom remodel to be finished. They weren’t rushed, materials were on site when needed, and everyone was able to get their work done in a timely manner. That takes planning and experience to have every part of the project come together on time.

  • Mid-Century Whole House Remodel in Upper Arlington

Mid-Century Whole House Remodel in Upper Arlington

Project Spotlight – Midwest suburban home gets new life as contemporary California ranch and wins NARI of Central Ohio Contractor of the Year award.

Single story homes, most commonly known as ranches, for the most part, have recognizable characteristics such as low rooflines, deep overhangs, a covered entry, typically are one room deep and integrated to nature with backyard patios. The most common subsets of this architectural design are Suburban, Tract, Modern and California style.

The California ranch was originally designed by the Californian architect, Cliff May, and built in 1932. The inspiration behind the design of the California ranch was taken from the Arts and Crafts Movement. In fact, similar aspects can be seen in these homes that were borrowed from the bungalow-style homes.

Main features of the California style ranch home include:

    • Wide eaves with one or more rooflines
    • Open concept floorplan with a “U” or “L” shaped layout
    • Expansive outdoor living spaces with multiple patios and/or decks
    • Large windows and sliding glass doors – connecting indoors and outdoor spaces
    • Minimal interior and exterior decorations
    • Vaulted ceilings in main living spaces, can also be in bedrooms
    • Casual, informal interior layout
    • An attached garage

In 2019 we were hired to design and remodel an entire 3000sf single-story home built in the late 1950s in Upper Arlington, OH. Our clients requested an open concept floor plan with vaulted ceilings and modern finishes. After several months of design, planning and estimating, the decision was made to tear off the roof and demo all of the walls so only the basement and foundation remained of the original home.

Sunroom Addition | Upper Arlington OH

Project Spotlight: Phase 4 of a design-build whole house remodel in Upper Arlington is a 264sf sunroom addition. Design features include 10′ vaulted shiplap ceilings, multiple large windows and a cozy stone gas fireplace. It’s a room our clients can use year-round!

Excavation for this project began in February 2020 just a few weeks before Ohio’s Stay at Home order. Thankfully the home construction industry was deemed an essential service by Governor DeWine and the project moved forward. Only a few minor supply chain delays due to the pandemic arose but the project was completed in early summer 2020. This project also included an exterior remodel of the 2-story suburban home along with a new stamped concrete patio and custom pergola.

  • Kitchen & Home Remodel Client Profile

Kitchen & Home Remodel Client Profile

Heather and Colin relocated to Upper Arlington, Ohio from Alexandria, Virginia in October 2019. They actually purchased their home remotely sight unseen! Technology, such as FaceTime helped facilitate many walkthroughs with their realtor. They knew this was the home for their family, but weren’t sure anyone would be able to complete any of the renovations before they wanted to move in. Read on to see how the collaborative Team at The Cleary Company got the family’s renovations completed by using all three of the company’s remodeling services – Design-Build, bath2BATH and Home Services.

The Projects – Interior Carpentry, Floors, Bathrooms, Kitchen & Mudroom

What spaces did you have redesigned?

The kitchen was a full redesign of the footprint. The new layout includes a new island, relocated appliances, new floors, and widening the entryways into the kitchen. The new arched entryways match others in our home. We had both full bathrooms renovated as well. The rest of the house involved refinishing floors, removing wallpaper, painting and freshening up the rest of the house after 40 years of nothing being touched. We had new railings made for the stairs, complete with a custom Cleary-built wooden banister.

What is your favorite aspect of your remodeled spaces?

Overall it’s the original wood floors we had refinished. We love the way the whole home feels now with the gorgeous floors. We are thrilled with the renewed look and feel of the original 1938 style of our home. Removing the wallpaper throughout the home and painting the dark brown trim white lightened everything up. The way the home functions now is as if it is an open concept, without it truly being a fully open floorplan.

In the kitchen, it’s the dark-stained butcher block element of the island. It fits with the traditional style we really wanted to be emulated. The island top’s stain color was also used for the built-in bench, with storage, in the eating nook. We love the backsplash and the pendant lights that their Designer, Katie Florjancic, found to match it.

When we started work on our bathrooms, the bath2BATH Team had pre-selected bath collections we could choose from. This was great for expediting the process, however, in our main bath we wanted a walk-in shower with a zero-threshold entry, not a pan with a threshold. The bath2BATH Team made that happen and now they offer that option as part of their curated design styles. We feel like we were a small part in helping them refine their shower design styles.

What advice would you offer to someone who is thinking of remodeling their home?

It is going to take longer than you think and it’s going to cost more than you think. At the end of the day, you need to find people that you trust. When you can turn over the project to your remodeler and let them do their job, it makes everything work much smoother. You can have high expectations, but if you have the trust in your team – you let them do their job and you never worry. We never worried at any time about what was happening. Even when we ran into challenges, they problem solved and created the best scenario for us.

Why did you choose The Cleary Company to complete your remodeling projects?

Initially, it was our realtor who recommended The Cleary Company to us. We had only seen our house online and knew from the photos and a Facetime what we wanted to change. Our realtor and their Project Developer, John Coleman, CRPM, walked us through the house room by room to find out our questions and ideas. He quickly let us know what could be done before we moved in and what the timeline would be for any additional projects. It was clear that The Cleary Company was going to make our vision happen. John got all 3 Teams together and made sure every division knew what needed to occur and how they could all get it completed in the planned time frame.

What was your favorite part of working with The Cleary Company and why?

Trust! Everyone that worked on our home was so knowledgeable, kind, sincere and helpful. We fell in love with every single person that we had working in our home. They are all amazing! We can’t say enough good things about The Cleary Company. Our Project Manager, Mike, was someone we could count on for everything. We weren’t living in the area while the projects were being done and our project manager took care of everything for us.

  • Interior Home Remodeling Projects

    Interior Home Remodeling Projects

Several years ago, one of our clients moved to Dublin, Ohio, to be closer to her family. Although she loves her 4-year-old 3,200 sq. ft. home, she just felt like it wasn’t complete. She hired The Cleary Company to install and paint new crown molding throughout several rooms on the first and second floors of her home.

Not only does the Cleary Team design and build large remodeling projects, but for our past clients we can also execute smaller interior and exterior remodeling projects when our production schedule allows. Our experienced carpenters can tackle those home upgrade items on your list that need professional attention.

What is your favorite part of your remodeled spaces by our Home Services team?

The house looks completed. The new crown moldings matches the chunky trim and beefy baseboards. It just feels cozy and homey.

Why did you choose The Cleary Company for your renovation project?

I had reached out to a handyman who has helped me with several cosmetic updates since I moved in. He did was unable to undertake a project of this scope and size, so he recommended I call his friend George Cleary who owns The Cleary Company. I checked out their website and liked what I saw.

With so many tradespeople out there, it’s hard to know who you can trust or who does quality work. I really like The Cleary Company. They are reputable. I will hang on to them and use them for future projects.

What did you like most about working with The Cleary Company and Home Services?

Their staff was my favorite part, the people are great.

John came out first and talked to me about the process and explained the contract. He was very informative, answered all of my questions and was prompt.

I loved AJ, the carpenter who did all of the work. AJ is truly a craftsman! It was clear from the very first day he knew how to hang crown molding and it was second nature to him. AJ did so much and was so kind and helpful. He is amazing and did it all himself! He treated my house like it was his own property. He kept everything neat and clean. He was so respectful and would tell me when he was going to arrive and leave. He kept me informed and in the loop with the progress. This allowed me to go on with my day-to-day planning.

Mike came and checked everything multiple times during the project. This kept everything moving forward. I especially appreciated him being here when the painters came. They were another company that works with The Cleary Company, but I really didn’t know who they were. Since I really don’t like having strangers in my house, Mike monitored their progress, checked in with me and with the painters. His presence provided a calming effect for me. And the painters did a beautiful job!

What advice would you offer to someone who is thinking of remodeling their home?

First, do your homework. The internet is filled with a lot of information and it may not all be that accurate. The Cleary Company’s website was very informative. I appreciated the bios and photographs of everyone that works there.

And second, plan what you want done in your home and really think throught the scope of work. Expectations may not be met if you have not given your project proper forethought.

If you were asked to explain in one word why you choose to do business with The Cleary Company what would it be?

Integrity. Because even after the project was finished, they reached out to make sure I was happy. Mike came and inspected the project to be sure I was satisfied. They reminded me that if anything happened in the next 2 years, they would be there to take care of it.

  • Basement Remodel | Dublin, OH

    Basement Remodel | Dublin, OH

With more time than ever spent in their 4,500 sq. ft. Dublin, Ohio, home over this past year, Ryan and Leigh Ann decided they were ready for a change. A combination of small children, a walk-out basement that looks onto a nature preserve, and money saved from no vacations led to a basement remodel they will enjoy forever!

What space did you have redesigned?

Our existing walk-out basement was finished with an open area and old bar, bedroom and full bath, but lacked style and function for our needs. We have 2 young children and reimagining a whole new space allowed us to convert the bedroom to a playroom with a new 6-foot opening with 4” white trim casing. Now when we walk down the stairs, we see out the 4 large windows and through the new opening we can also see out the large glass sliding doors. We absolutely love all of the natural light that floods in our new basement remodel.

What is your favorite aspect of your remodeled space?

We love the overall flow and the lightening up of the room. The white trim, light gray walls, new lighting and more windows has created a brand-new feel for the room. Now we can all be downstairs, the kids can play and be seen, but we still have our own space as well. We love sitting in front of the new fireplace and admiring the stunning herringbone tile work surrounding it.

Why did you choose The Cleary Company to complete your basement remodel?

We had our ideas but wanted to use a remodeling company that could bring them together in a cohesive design. After meeting with The Cleary Company, we knew they would be able to create what we wanted. They made the whole process seamless. We interviewed 4 companies but knowing The Cleary Company had the design team in house and we could see the renderings before we committed to the project was a major reason we chose to work with them. We had design ideas that the team brought to life in their proposed design plan.

What was your favorite part of working with The Cleary Company and why?

We really liked seeing the progress and the interaction to make sure things were perfect. One example was when the custom bar shelves were to be mounted. The cabinets, countertop, backsplash and lighting were installed and we were at the decision point to place the shelves. The whole design team came out to help decide where they should go. They held them in different areas so we could see where we wanted them placed. We actually deviated from the original plan a bit to get them exactly in the right place. We are thankful we had the opportunity to do this. They made sure the light didn’t get blocked by altering the size of the shelf itself. We loved them coming together with us to make the right decision and be so happy with the end result.

Was there a Cleary Team member(s) who stood out and if yes, how did they exceed your expectations?

The John’s were outstanding! John Coleman was here from the start to the end and his insight and approach was top notch. John Hamlett came at the end of the project to complete some finishing touches. He saw me struggling to mount our rear speakers and I gave up for the day. I came back the next day and to my surprise, they were mounted perfectly. When I thanked him, he said it was to no problem, he took care of it while the first coat of paint dried. Things like that happened all the way through the project. Now my wife knows they were hung correctly!

What advice would you offer to someone who is thinking of remodeling their home?

Do it! With what we experienced in the last year, spending more time at home, we are so glad we did it. If you can create new space in your home, you won’t regret it. We are so thankful we did it and feel it was perfect timing. Every time we come down the stairs, we feel like we are getting away to this brand new area that we can enjoy. Go with Cleary or someone you trust that can help you along the way and make sure the end product is what you want.

If you were asked to explain in one word why you choose to do business with The Cleary Company, what would it be?

Talented! Every step of the way, from the designs to picking out materials to the implementation of the design, we worked with the best people. Everyone is very talented.

  • Open Plan Home Remodel in Columbus, OH

Open Plan Home Remodel in Columbus, OH

Alex and Lisa have lived in their home for 15 years. Their kids are grown and all moved out. They knew it was time for some changes to make the 4,100 sq. ft. ranch their forever home. The recent, extensive remodel was the first large-scale project they’ve undertaken and they couldn’t be more thrilled with the results! Our Team enjoyed working with them on the open concept home remodel. Read on as they share more on their experience.

What spaces did you have redesigned?

The remodel included significant changes to the floorplan and updating the kitchen, family, living and dining rooms, along with the master bathroom. Walls were removed in the main living spaces to create an open layout which we desired for large family gatherings. Featured between the dining and living spaces is a new double-sided fireplace with custom bookshelves flanking both sides.

What is your favorite feature of your newly remodeled home?

I (Alex) like the living space because it’s now open and natural light comes from both sides of the house. The large front windows are new and we can open them–which we couldn’t do with the old windows. We have full light streaming in and good breezes! The fireplace warms the room without having to turn up the heat in the entire home. My wife, Lisa loves the kitchen because of the increased prep space and storage. The new design improved the kitchen’s layout and makes it easy to prep meals. She is a baker and with the large island and multiple ovens she is able to cook and bake even more! And we both love the air jet soaker tub in our new master bathroom. Along with the heated tile floor, we feel like we have our own spa.

Why did you choose The Cleary Company to design and build your remodeling project?

We spent several months trying to find a contractor in our area that we could work with and have them complete the entire scope of our project. Since we have a connection to the Cleary family, through our kids attending college together, we reached out to George to see if our project was a good fit. John Coleman, our Project Developer, met with us and understood what we were looking to accomplish and it was an obvious choice to hire The Cleary Company to complete our remodel. We are thrilled. We feel fortunate to have had the family connection and knew of their great work already.

What was your favorite part of working with The Cleary Company and why?

When we first reached out to George, it was because we wanted someone who could do everything from design through the build and manage everything for us in one company. We wanted to work with someone who had been through a project like this before, did good work and could manage it all. This was our first big project and everyone on the Team worked through it with us, step by step. No project goes without a few issues or changes and everyone addressed all of our needs professionally. The work was tremendous, so well done and thought out. We enjoyed all of the personalities of the people we got to work with along the way.

Was there a Team member(s) who stood out? How did they exceed your expectations?

Each one in their role stood out. John, from our very first meeting, explained how the scope and process of the project would work. Matt and the design group really listened to us as we discussed how we wanted the project to come together. Eric, our Project Manager, was a pleasure to work with during construction. Steve and his carpentry team did amazing work. Even Joe, the remodeling apprentice, had a connection to a high school buddy of my son’s. We were able to build relationships with all of these folks as they were in our home over the three months. It was very enjoyable! And of course, none of this would have happened without George telling us he would be willing to work outside of their normal service area and we can’t thank him enough!

What advice would you offer to someone who is thinking of remodeling their home?

Find somebody who can do everything you need for the whole design-build process. I can’t imagine myself having to coordinate everything that had to happen if I was using different people or companies for the remodeling project. Search for a company with experience, a good reputation and completed projects they can point to demonstrating good, high-quality work. This is a huge investment and a tremendous disruption while you’re going through it. It’s important to work with someone you trust. When the project is completed, you want it to be what you wanted and that’s what we got with The Cleary Company.

Do you have one word why you choose to do business with The Cleary Company?

Quality, but I would also add relationships. We had some fun along the way and that was special but it was the time and attention they paid to us was very much appreciated. We had no crazy surprises and the project went the way we expected. The Team was adaptable as we threw them a few curveballs. They were flexible and worked with us to make what we wanted to happen with our plan, budget and schedule.

Completed in the summer of 2020, our clients’ porch addition came just in time. Our clients’ 1978 brick ranch’s front entrance was overshadowed by an old unused greenhouse atrium. Not only did the front exterior lack curb appeal the greenhouse blocked off views of the gorgeous countryside.

The new front entranced is wider and features French doors and two sidelights all with full glass panels for bringing connection with the inside and outdoors. A new front sidewalk and landscaping completes this project and creates amazing curb appeal!
