Kate has known George and his family for many years. So when she decided to pursue a home addition and major remodeling project project it made sense The Cleary Company Remodel Design Build in Columbus OH was her first and only phone call. Having lived in her home for over 13 years she was ready for a more functional layout to meet her growing family’s needs.
After several meetings with Laura Watson, ASID, UDCP a list was created combining all of Kate’s wants & needs with a proposed scope and design plan. When estimates for the project were calculated into a project budget it was clear the best option was to tear down her existing home and build an all new one. This allowed for the new foundation to be reoriented on her lot creating a private backyard and a circular driveay.

Project Spotlight: Transitional in regards to interior design and home remodeling refers to a blend or “marriage” of traditional and modern styles. It’s a timeless contemporary interpretation of elements from a variety of time periods incorporating lines that are less ornate than traditional designs, but not as severely basic as contemporary lines. As a result, transitional designs are classic, timeless, and clean. The transitional style also focuses on comfort and practicality to meet the lifestyle of an active household.
Color palettes are typically neutral and subtle and may be monochromatic, with color in art and accents, not upholstery and floors. Wood finishes are typically warm tones but can range from a natural finish to a high-gloss lacquer. Texture is important and a balanced mix of several textures is often used.
The Cleary Company Remodel-Design-Build, your home remodeling company, in Columbus, OH, remodeled 2 transitional-style kitchens earlier this year that are very different.
The first home, located in Tartan Fields in Dublin, OH was built in 2000, and features soft warm neutral tones, exposed wood beams, and stainless appliances.
Project Year: 2017 | Project Cost: $75,001 – $100,000

Newly remodeled space is fresh and bright. The existing cabinets were updated with new paint (Benjamin Moore Acadia White) to match existing base & crown molding of home. Cesar Stone quartz countertops replaced existing builder grade granite. New wide plank engineered hardwood floors w/ an antiqued finish replaced the existing narrow planked golden oak. New glass globe pendant lighting installed over island. Microwave over the range was relocated into the existing island and a new custom hood was installed in it’s place.

Clients discuss their experience working with The Cleary Company Remodel Design Build. The remodel of their Mid-Century split level home created a kitchen that met their lifestyle needs. The project scope included expanding the footprint of original kitchen by using space from an adjacent room.
A design plan was created that gave the family of four a more functional layout for their kitchen, dining and living rooms. Other updates included in the home’s 1st floor remodel were opening up the wall between the kitchen and living room, building custom banquet seating, installing new interior doors, trim, plus all new lighting, flooring and paint.

After seven years of feeling dissatisfied with their backyard, our clients were ready to transform their outdoor space into a place they could truly enjoy, embracing the natural beauty of the wooded yard behind their home.
The space beneath the deck was previously unused and uninviting, offering no functionality or access to the walkout basement. The steep, narrow stairs leading from the upper deck were not only impractical but also felt unsafe, especially for the family’s young children, making the area both inaccessible and underutilized.

Structural updates to the deck introduced sturdy new beams and posts, allowing for extended spans that open up breathtaking views of the backyard. Additionally, the deck stairs were completely redesigned to include a spacious landing, creating a smoother and more inviting transition between the upper deck and the lower patio entertainment spaces.
The walkout basement now features larger windows and elegant French doors, flooding the interior with natural light and providing seamless access to the newly designed paver patio. This patio features three distinct entertainment areas, perfect for hosting gatherings or enjoying quiet moments outdoors.

Project Year: 2012 | Project Cost: $200,001 – $500,000
The dual-income active family of 4 desired a larger kitchen with a better layout for meal preparation and entertaining plus more functional storage. We proposed to open the wall between their family room and kitchen but by doing so it required the removal of an unused 2nd staircase to the upper floors. This design solution made a huge difference in the home’s traffic flow as well as allows mom to keep an eye on the little ones while preparing meals.
The kitchen scope of this project won a Contractor of the Year Award from NARI of Central OH in the Residential Kitchen Remodel category over $120k. The scope of work for the entire project was more than just remodeling the kitchen. Our Design-Build Team also relocated a powder room, built an addition of a mudroom, refinished hardwood floors, and updated the adjacent family room w/new flooring, drywall, lighting, and paint. Luxury features of the newly remodeled spaces are heated tile floors, Cambria quartz countertops, custom Amish built cabinetry and state of the art appliances. Additionally, this home was featured on the 25th anniversary Kitchen Kapers tour. This tour of exclusive homes in Upper Arlington OH is a philanthropic endeavor of Riverside Methodist Hospital Service Board VII.
The longtime clients hired our Team for multiple phases of this Remodel-Design-Build project as their family expanded and grew. Overall we completed two additions as well as extensive remodels of their first floor, including the kitchen, family room, and powder room. Second-story projects included a bedroom addition and a primary en suite remodel.

Also included in the scope, remodeling and expanding the kitchen footprint, relocating a powder room, building a new mudroom, refinishing all the hardwood floors and updating the adjacent family room with new flooring, drywall, lighting and paint. 1968 Contemporary home gets 21st Century makeover. View the completed project album with before during & after photos on our Houzz profile!
This gorgeous soft contemporary home overlooks a golf course with beautiful, serene views from all sides. The home’s floor plan was closed off and did not have a good flow for entertaining. The clients knew exactly what they wanted and were not afraid to “think outside the box”. They moved from the downtown area into the suburbs for a more relaxing space to come home to. Our client, Laurie, is a talented artist and needed space for her studio.
The original kitchen was closed off from the dining room, creating a dark, cave-like space that feels small and does not align with the client’s entertaining style. While the dining room and great room feature high, vaulted ceilings, the kitchen has lower 8-foot ceilings with 7-foot soffits, which makes the spaces feel disconnected and diminishes the overall flow and functionality of the home.
The renovation included removing the wall separating the kitchen from the dining and great room to create an open-concept layout that fully showcases the stunning golf course views. The kitchen received a refresh with new luxury-grade appliances, updated cabinet doors and drawer fronts, and a redesigned pantry door. Painted shiplap boards were added to the kitchen workspace for architectural interest, while additional cabinetry was incorporated to extend the new island. A wine fridge and storage were installed in a newly designed dry bar, enhancing both style and functionality.
The great room fireplace wall was refinished, and built-ins, along with a barn door, were added to the A/V closet for a clean, organized look. The stairwell to the second floor was opened up and modernized with a sleek new metal railing system featuring cables. All hardwood floors throughout the home were refinished, and the home office was painted and updated to complete the transformation.
