    Trending Bathroom Paint Colors

The bathroom – a room we can’t live without. Now more than ever we want our bathrooms to fit our needs, provide is an escape or refuge and look beautiful. One way to accomplish this is with a new coat of paint! Bathroom design forecasts are using these words describe them – tranquil, inviting, reset, calming, earthy, and spa-like – suggesting a theme of wellness for both body and mind.

Whether it’s for the kids’ bathroom, a powder room, or the en suite retreat of your dreams, choosing a paint color can seem a bit intimidating for most of us. At The Cleary Company, our Remodel-Design-Build Team are well-versed in selecting the perfect paint colors, providing our clients with options to fit the style of their remodeled spaces.

Each year brings new launches of color palettes and we research what’s trending, although some colors continue to be classics. For 2023, the focus is on sandy beiges, warm ochres and dusky browns. Earthy tones that are timeless. As one of our preferred vendors, we look to Sherwin-Williams for their top picks for the new year.

Bathroom paint colors to consider by category:

    Neutrals:

They are always a pleasing choice with timeless hues and their ability to pair with vibrant color accents. Within neutrals, specifically whites, creams, and grays, the sky’s the limit for choices. But, a common mistake made is believing neutrals are only light colors. Don’t be afraid to choose darker hues of neutral colors to create moody, meditative or sophisticated bathrooms.

Sherwin-Williams’ color of the year is Redend Point SW 9081. Minimal, calming, intriguing, this warm earthy hue is grounded in earthiness and serenity and is a stylish choice in any room.

Modern Gray SW 7632 is another appealing selection for a warm neutral or try Silverpointe SW 7653

Why not embrace a combination of neutrals for highlighting architectural details. Extra White SW 7006, On the Rocks SW 7671, and Alabaster SW 7008 combine to create a timeless look in this traditional cottage style bathroom alcove below.

    Greens:

Bring the outdoors in by capturing nature with green hues. Inspire yourself to try something new with the colors you choose. A color our designers love is Fresh Eucalyptus SW 9658. You’ll feel like you stepped into nature with this gorgeous color. For a bolder statement you might try Forever Green SW 9653, it’s earthy and modern.

    Blues:

When we think of the perfect blue, one of our favorite bathroom projects comes to mind. This primary en suite project located in Upper Arlington, Ohio features Embellished Blue SW 6749 on the walls. A bright color that is playful and refreshing. It pairs beautifully with the blue iridescent mosaic tile accents in the shower on the vanity’s backsplash.

    Embellished Blue SW6749

Other blue hues trending? Bold and rich like Perfect Periwinkle SW 9065 or Adriatic Sea SW 6790, or for a timeless, yet modern look, check out Dew Drop SW 9641. They are all great options to consider for your bathroom.

    Yellows:

A bright yellow is perfect for a child’s bathroom and warm yellows can be perfect powder room accents. Consider Tarnished Trumpet SW 9026 for it’s gorgeous mustard color or Limón Fresco SW 9030 if a brighter cool tone is desirable. Both offer a timeless vintage feel. While Moonraker SW 6701 is more mellow and serene and perfect for a tranquil spa-like space.

An award winning design team to challenge and inspire you

The colors you choose for your bathroom can transform the space from drab and dated to fresh and stylish. Paint has the ability to energize, bring a sense of calm, a bit of whimsy, or a fresh start to any room and might be just the reset you need to start off a new year. And remember the beauty of paint is if you end up not loving it and want to create a different mood, just paint it again!

Our Design Team at The Cleary Company invests time in collaborating and researching to find the perfect paint colors for our clients. Their expertise will be just what you need when you remodel your bathroom. Visit our bathrooms portfolio for more inspiration!

  • 5 Ways to Practice Bathroom Water Efficiency

5 Ways to Practice Bathroom Water Efficiency

Do you love an extra-long shower? Do you leave the water running the whole time you brush your teeth? Your bathroom is a major source of water use—from flushing the toilet and taking a shower, to brushing your teeth. Additionally, most bathrooms are filled with products that aren’t as eco-friendly as we would like.

Are you trying to conserve water in your home or working to be kind to the earth? We have put together a list of ways to conserve water and design ideas to create an eco-friendly bathroom. If we all do a little bit, we will make a significant difference!

Reduce Your Use of Water in Your Bathroom

    1. Install Low-Flow shower heads and reduce overall shower time (we know, this one is really hard!). Shower plumbing has come a long way and newer low-flow shower heads do not mean reduced water pressure. Aim for one that has a flow rate of around 2.5 gallons a minute as compared to a standard one with a flow rate of 3 to 4 gallons a minute.
    2. Installing aerators on your faucets will help reduce the amount of water used. An aerator mixes the water with air, creating an efficient, smooth flow of water. This, combined with turning off the water while brushing teeth or shaving, will significantly cut down on water usage. Watch this video for easy aerator installation!
    3. A dual flush toilet can save a good deal of water in a year. Did you know that toilets use approximately 27% of the water consumed in a home? If installing a new toilet isn’t an option, there are several DIY options available for items you can put in your toilet tank to conserve water.
    4. Tankless water heaters only heat the water when needed, which reduces the consumption of energy as well as the cost to heat the water. A family of 5 living in Columbus, Ohio would need a 10 GPM gas or 27 kW electric tankless heater. This might be something to consider when remodeling your home!
    5. Ditch the large garden or built-in soaking tubs for a free-standing tub, that takes up less space and uses less water. This will cut down on the amount of water needed for a bath. Read our blog about removing garden tubs!

    Designing an Eco-Friendly Bathroom

What can you do to make your bathroom a bit more sustainable and environmentally friendly? Even just implementing a few of these ideas could help the planet.

    Product Choices

    • Find some beautiful reusable glass, plastic, or bamboo containers for your shampoo and soap. You buy them once and just refill as needed. Even better, take them to a store that offers refillable products.
    • Switch to shampoo, conditioner, and soap bars for hair and body care, instead of products in plastic bottles.
    • Use bamboo toothbrushes (most are 100% biodegradable-just throw them away, but not inside a plastic bag) to cut down on the amount of plastic that ends up in landfills and the ocean.
    • A hard one to make the switch to for some of us, switch to a responsibly-sourced toilet paper, which is more sustainable and made with materials that are better for the environment.

    Room Design Options

    • Reclaimed wood cabinets are an environmentally friendly idea. Use FSC-certified wood for a more sustainable product.
    • Consider using materials for countertops and cabinets like glass, bamboo, stone, concrete, or tile as part of your design. These materials are part of a more sustainable plan.
    • Low-wattage exhaust fans still do the job, but at a lower wattage and better energy efficiency. What an easy change to make in any bathroom!
    • A skylight can let in loads of natural light, which cuts down on energy usage—you don’t need the lights on during the day or on a moonlit night.
    • Go sustainable with VOC-free paint (to cut down on chemicals), sustainable flooring, such as cork, bamboo, or eco-friendly concrete, and install LED lighting.
    • Add living plants to your bathroom. Plants that thrive in low-light and warm climates will thrive in a bathroom. They help clean the air and provide your bathroom with beauty and serenity.

Being eco-friendly isn’t always less expensive, so maybe start with a few items you can get behind and work towards more changes. If we can all just start with something, we will make a difference.

  • Home Remodeling & Jobsite Safety

    Home Remodeling & Jobsite Safety

What Clients Can Do To Keep Safe During Their Home Remodel

by Aaron Enfinger CR General Manager The Cleary Company Remodel Design Build Columbus OH

Safety has no quitting time; Safety first; Safety is no accident; Safety is as simple as ABC-Always Be Careful. Would you like me to continue? I can do this all day!

There are many slogans when it comes to safety. Many of these are catchy, funny and memorable so that safety is kept at the top of mind when working in an environment that, at times, can be dangerous. One thing that we in the home remodeling industry do as part of our jobs is bring some of these dangers into your home.

Despite the potential for danger on any jobsite, Our Team at The Cleary Company Remodel Design Build Columbus OH is committed to safe construction sites for our homeowners, their families and pets, plus all our employees, trades and vendors. We feel education is key to keeping everyone safe so let’s take a few minutes to review some simple ways our clients can assist our Production Team with safety on every jobsite.

The KISS acronym is an easy way to remember for good safety practices-

    Keeps It Safe and Sound!

    • Keep clear of work site during the work day

One of the best ways to avoid potentially unsafe conditions is to…avoid potentially unsafe conditions. While the craftsmen are working on your project it is best to stay away from the construction area. There are tools, materials, and other potential hazards lurking everywhere. Giving the craftsmen the needed space and time to work, goes a long way in reducing additional exposure to hidden hazards. This is especially true for children and pets! Your Project Manager can arrange a time either before or after the work day to walk your jobsite with you.

    • Involve everyone that lives in the home in project communication

One of the most important aspects of any home remodeling project is staying in regular communication with your Project Manager. Whether you prefer calls, texts or emails, communication needs to go both ways in the dynamic relationship of Client/PM. Please regularly update your Project Manager with your family’s activities and daily schedule. Safety can be compromised with surprises so you and your household will need to know what is happening daily in your home and when it is going to happen. Our APP makes keeping in touch and up to date easy with your mobile phone or tablet!

    • Store valuables away from the work zone

We have seen some very unfortunate circumstances where some very sentimental family heirlooms have inadvertently been damaged during demo and/or construction. Even though all professional craftsmen take pride in the fact that they can do their work and minimize impact on the family’s daily life, clients can help us be successful by keeping important possessions out of harm’s way. We recommend any item of value, whether sentimental or monetary value, be kept away from any area under construction and prefer these items to be packed away and, if possible, stored offsite.

    • Set boundaries with your children and pets

It seems obvious enough, but it should be highlighted anyway- DO NOT allow children and/or pets unattended into construction areas during working and even during non-working hours. Construction sites are never a safe place for children and pets since they can’t discern the dangers looming. Please keep them far away from the tools, materials, and exposed mechanical systems.

Safety is everyone’s responsibility and reward!
